Nuno Mendes, BSc, MSc, is a Senior Research Technician at the Instituto de Inovação e Investigação em Saúde (i3S) at the University of Porto. He obtained his degree as a Pathology Technician from Escola Superior de Saúde do Porto and a Master’s in Medicine and Molecular Oncology from Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade do Porto in 2007. Nuno began his research career at the Instituto de Patologia e Imunologia Molecular da Universidade do Porto (IPATIMUP) in 2003, contributing to projects on gastric pathology linked to Helicobacter pylori infection. In 2009, he was contracted by IPATIMUP to work on cancer models (xenograft and transgenic) and to establish IPATIMUP’s Bank of Cell Lines.
With contributions to over 30 publications in peer-reviewed journals, Nuno’s expertise spans animal experimentation, histology, and immunohistochemistry—from experimental design and cancer model development to drug testing and sample characterization.
Currently pursuing his PhD, he is a core member of the Histology and Electron Microscopy Scientific Platform at i3S, where he leads the development of high-throughput multiplex imaging techniques using state-of-the-art PhenoImager HT and Hyperion Tissue Imaging systems.
