Marina Leite obtained her degree in Biology in 1991 at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto. Then, in 1996 she got a master degree in Oncobiology at Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP) and at the Institute of Molecular Pathology and Immunology of the University of Porto (Ipatimup), and in 2006 a PhD on Human Biology also at FMUP/Ipatimup. During her PhD, Marina Leite was trained at the José Eduardo Guimarães laboratory at Ipatimup, and abroad at the João Ascensão/Esmail Zanjani laboratory at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Reno, USA, and at the Angelo A. Cardoso/Lee Nadler laboratory at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, USA. Currently, Marina Leite holds a post-doctoral position at the Ipatimup, and is author/co-author of 11 papers in peer-reviewed international journals and 3 book chapters.

Highlights
Marina Leite main research interests are: to understand the interactions between the Helicobacter pylori and gastric epithelial cells that contribute to disease development; to identify new H. pylori virulence factors and its mechanisms of action; and, to identify new host targets of H. pylori infection, its signaling pathways and cellular functions that are disturbed by the bacteria.
